Pogoniulus chrysoconus
This small, African tinkerbird is best located by its call, which at 100 repetitions per a minute and often unabated for several minutes, is hard to miss! That said, you need to go to the right habitat, which is broad-leaved woodland, especially miombo and mistletoes.
We first recorded this species in April 2010 at Kloofwaters in the Magalisberg. Reliable locations for it include Mabusa and Roodeplaat Nature Reserves.
