Yellow Bishop

Euplectes capensis

This bishop always puts a smile on my face, as in flight this puffy bird can resemble a very overgrown bumble bee. It is fairly common in southern Africa and spends time in a variety of habitats including fynbos, montane grassland, dense vegetation along streams, forest edges and cultivated lands.

We first recorded and photographed this species in November 2010 while driving through the West Coast National Park.
