Spizocorys starki
This small, compact lark with its erectile crest is a common resident and nomad in stony desert scrub, gravel plains and arid grasslands. Its jumbled, melodious song is a key indicator of its presence and the best way to locate it.
We first recorded this species in Etosha in June 2012 (I first mistook it for a monotonous lark) and then again in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in May 2013.
