Southern Carmine Bee-eater

Merops nubicoides

This bright, pinkish red bee-eater usually breeds in large colonies in sandbanks. It visits southern Africa in summer, where it spends its time in woodland, savanna and flood plains.

I first recorded this species in October 2011 while driving from Borakalalo National Park to Kgomo Kgomo.
