Southern Boubou

Laniarius ferrugineus

This endemic, black and white bush-shrike with its buffy belly and white wingbars is a common resident of forest edges, thickets and dense coastal shrub.

There are six geographic variations of southern boubou in southern Africa. We first recorded the “Ferrugineus” sub-species of this boubou in January 2010 in Llandudno, Cape Town.
