Centropus senegalensis
Separated from similar species by its relatively small size, and plain (not barred) rump and uppertail, this particular coucal is also less dependent on water than other species.
David Letsoalo and I were lucky to locate this coucal in February 2012 in the Kruger National Park.
This particular pair of senegal coucals built a nest near to the intersection between the Punda Maria and Shingwedzi tar roads and was the first recorded breeding pair in Southern Africa.
