Indicator variegatus
This uncommon honeyguide is easily distinguished from other species by its streaked throat and mottled breast.
We first recorded this large, olive-backed bird in September 2010 while on the Shokwe Pan walk with Joseph Gumede in the Ndumo Game Reserve.
Our parent’s home in Ocean View on the south coast of KwaZulu Natal has become my most reliable spot for this species.
