This exquisite bird is one of three Longclaw species in Southern Africa. It is found in 11 African countries where it occupies wet grasslands and flood plains with low level grass. As the name suggests, i is easily distiguished from Orange-throated and Yellow-throated Longclaw by the colour of its throat.
This was also the last of the Longclaws I needed to see and photograph in Southern Africa, where it can be found on the North Coast of KwaZulu Natal. One of the best places to locate it is Nibela Peninsula, and this is where I eventually caught up with it in January 2019.
