Red-fronted Barbet

Tricholaema diademata

The red-fronted barbet is an African barbet that occurs naturally in the countries of Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. This stocky, solitary species is widespread in dry bush and woodland and could be mistaken for an acacia pied barbet if their ranges overlapped (but they don’t :)).

We first recorded this species in September 2011 while on a three week trip in Kenya. It was a regular visitor to the dining area at El Karama Eco Lodge near Nanyuki, Kenya.
