Red-collared Widowbird

Euplectes ardens

I first recorded this widowbird in February 2010 in Suikerbosrand Nature Researve, South East Gauteng. We were also lucky to see the Kenyan race (which has a bright red crown, nape, collar and sides of neck) in September 2011 while driving to Nanayuki from Nairobi. This race is also called the Rednaped Widowbird or in scientific terms “suahelica”.
