Asio capensis
This beautiful, brown owl with its buffy-grey facial disc is less nocturnal than other owls, and consequently, is the species I see most often on my early morning outings.
Residing in marshes and damp grassland, marsh owls can be seen at such places as Marievale Bird Santuary (especially on the way to the bus stop hide), Suikerbosrand (specifically on Eendracht Road) and south of Devon.
