Ludwig’s Bustard

Neotis Ludwigii (near-endemic)

The Ludwig’s bustard is smaller than the Denham’s bustard and has a grey-brown (not pale-grey) fore-neck, mostly uniform dark head and a far more orange (not chestnut) hind-neck.

This vulnerable bustard was one of our target birds while travelling through Namibia in July 2012. Fortunately with the good rains during the year there was a huge influx of these birds to the areas surrounding Aus (southern Namibia) and we were given great views, especially along the road from Klein Aus Vista to the Garup wild horses.
