Long-billed Crombec

Sylvietta rufescens

These small tailless warblers are immediately identifiable in the field. As the long-billed crombec’s name suggests it has the longest bill of all the crombecs in southern Africa, has a paler face than the red-faced crombec and a diagnostic grey eye stripe.

I first recorded this unique looking bird in June 2010 while exploring Roodeplaat Dam Nature Reserve.
