Little Sparrow-hawk

Accipiter minullus

As this bird of prey’s name would suggest,  it is the smallest accipiter in the region and can be distinguished from all other small raptors by the two white spots on its upper tail and its yellow eyes and eye-ring.

I first recorded this secretive species in September 2010 while exploring the camp grounds of Ndumo Game Reserve.
