Little Egret

Egretta garzetta

The little egret is common throughout much of southern and South Africa and prefers the shallow margins of lakes, rivers, estuaries, pans, marshes and saltpans, where it hunts for its main dietary item; fish.

We first recorded this yellow-footed species in May 2010 at the “windmill” restaurant near Hartebeespoort Dam.
