Buteo rufofuscus (endemic)
This large, endemic buzzard is a common resident in grassland, agricultural land and karoo scrub. Look out for its broad wings with mottled under-wing coverts (white bars with black edges), chestnut breast with (usually black underparts) and a uniformly, rufous tail.
We have seen it regularly, especially on road trips to the Drakensberg and in and around Cape Town. I still, however, need to get one to pose for a decent photograph.
