Micronisus Gabar
This accipiter-like hawk with its streaked chest, barred belly and white rump is a locally common resident of savanna and semi-desert (where it is restricted to tree-lined watercourses). We have seen both forms, the melanistic (which makes up 5 to 25% of the population) and the typical form.
Our best sightings of this species ocurred in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, where we were treated to awesome views of both forms trying to catch unsuspecting birds at the famous kalahari waterholes.
