Eastern Nicator

Nicator gularis

This shy and elusive songbird normally sticks to dense vegetation in sand forests, and is a very frustrating species should you be a keen bird photographer. It is found in Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Somalia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

My best experience with this species took place at Hilltop Camp in Hluhluwe Game Reserve, South Africa, while on a family holiday with Eileen and Joshua. I discovered a very confiding individual in the camp itself and then another on a game drive. It was like Christmas, but in April!
