Damara Canary

Serinus leucolaemus (endemic)

We first recorded this canary in July 2012 while staying at Klein Aus Vista in southern Namibia. We had just sat down to have a welcome drink when we noticed them foraging in the gardens below.

This species (or subspecies of the black-headed canary) is best distinguished by the male having a pied (rather than black) head.
