Crowned Cormorant

Phalacrocorax coronatus

This endemic, near-threatened marine cormorant can be difficult to separate from reed cormorant, but, if one is trying, it is slightly slarger, has a more uniform back and a prominent forecrown crest.

We first recorded this cormorant in July 2010 in Llandudno, Cape Town. They tend to favour the rocks in front of our folk’s home.
