Sylvia subcaeruleum (near-endemic)
This bird’s cheerful song and bright, chestnut rump make it unmistakeable in the field.
I first recorded this species in June 2012 while exploring Roodeplaat Dam Nature Reserve, north east of Pretoria.
Other reliable locations for this species include Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve (especially the pinic spot) and the “Zaagkuildrift to Kgomo Kgomo” birding route.
