Chestnut-fronted Helmetshrike

Prionops scopifrons

This common resident in lowland and riparian forest is greyer than retz helmetshrike and can be distinguished by its chestnut forehead and blue-grey eye-wattles.

I first recorded this species in September 2011 while exploring the Arabuko Sokoke Forest on the east coast of Kenya. They were very common in certain parts of the forest and were used to identify bird partiesĀ (as well asĀ to find the tiny, amani sunbird).
