Macronyx capensis (Endemic)
The orange-throated or cape longclaw is endemic to southern Africa, occurring in moist, short grassland and fynbos as well as pastures and vleis.
We first recorded this species in March 2010 while staying in the town of Wakkerstroom in Mpumulanga. Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve (45 minutes south of Johannesburg) provides excellent photographic opportunities for this species.
