Burchell’s Starling

Lamprotornis australis (near endemic)

If bigger is better, then the burchell’s starling is definitely the best southern African starling. Weighing in at 138 grams and measuring 32 centimetres, it is the largest starling of the region and can be easily told from its closest cousin; the meve’s starling, by its heavier build and shorter, broader tail.

It is also a near endemic species to southern Africa and prefers open woodland and savanna.
