Campicoloides bifasciatus (endemic)
This black and buff chat is endemic to southern Africa. Fortunately you don’t have to strain your eyes to find them, as these guys perch conspicuously on large rocks within their habitat.
We first viewed this striking species in August 2010 while traversing the rocky outcrops near our BnB in Kaapsehoop. This fairy-tale town near Nelspruit boasts some interesting bird species including striped flufftail, bush blackcap and black-rumped buttonquail. (The rocky-strewn, grassy slopes around Dullstroom are another excellent spot for them.)
