Eupodotis gindiana
Singles and pairs of this small, short-legged bustard are fairly common in arid and semi-arid bushland in East Africa. The male’s crest is only visible in display, however this birds short legs, size and warm, buff-brown back make it easy to separate from other similar species.
We first recorded this short-legged bustard in September 2011 while staying at El Karama Eco Lodge near Nanyuki in Kenya. The pristine condition of this beautiful game farm made it a hot spot for bustards and korhaans.
