Cercotrichas signata (endemic)
This special endemic resides in coastal and evergreen forests. Thus, you can imagine my suprize when I located a breeding pair in our parent’s garden in Ocean View on the south coast of KwaZulu Natal.
I first spotted a single bird in November 2010, singing from a branch, while walking the boundary fence of the garden. The following year I had a good sighting of both the male and female. And two years later, with camarea in hand, I was lucky enough to locate their nest and watch as the two adults travelled back and forth with various food items.
Umdoni Forest near Pennington is another great sight for this beautiful scrub-robin.
