Platysteira peltata
We first stumbled across this species while spending a long weekend in Ballito on the north coast of KwaZulu Natal. I had heard that the species ocurred in Ballito but had no expectation of bumping into it while walking the neighbourhood streets. Fortunately I was carrying my camera at the time and was able to snap two quick shots when the wattle-eye flew straight into my path. Good spots (where I have located this species before) to find this sought after species include: at the start of the walkway to the Sappi bird hide in Stanger, Pafuri Wilderness Camp in the Kruger National Park and the Waterberry coffee shop in Ballito.
