Black Cuckoo-shrike

Campephaga flava

This pitch black cuckoo-shrike with its orange gape and yellow shoulder patch generally spends its time in broad-leaved burkea and mixed woodland, but also occurrs along the edges of evergreen forest and in well-wooded gardens.

We saw our first black cuckoo-shrike, a male, in March 2010 while on an early morning bird walk at Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens.
