Barlow’s Lark

Certhilauda barlowi (endemic)

This endemic species is a locally common resident in arid scrubland and vegetated dunes. It is slightly larger with a longer bill than dune and karoo larks, and is restricted to a small area in north west South Africa and south west Namibia.

We first recorded this special lark in July 2012 while approaching the town of Rosh Pinah. We knew that the lark could be found near this location but had no expectation of seeing it within the first 5 minutes of starting to look for it. We were truly blessed!
