Bare-cheeked Babbler

Turdoides gymnogenys (near-endemic)

These near-endemic birds are definitely my favourite babblers. Their comical interactions and seemingly colourful personalities make them interesting to observe and great to photograph.

They are restricted to northern Namibia (in southern Africa) where they are uncommon to common residents in arid savanna. We first recorded this species in July 2012 while having breakfast on the deck of the Kunene River Lodge.
