Bar-tailed Godwit

Limosa lapponica

This lanky wader with its long, slightly upturned bill  is distinguished from other godwits by its barred tail, white back and lack of white wingbars.

I first recorded this species in June 2011 at the Geelbek Hide in the West Coast National Park. This seems to be a fairly reliable spot for this palearctic summer migrant.
