Treron calvus
The African green pigeon is the most widely distributed green-plumaged fruit pigeon in the world, ranging from Senegal to Ethiopia and eastern South Africa. It is fairly common across a variety of habitats and subsists largely on the fruit of fig trees. It is also arguably the most beautiful of the southern African pigeons and has 7 sub-species in this region.
We first record this species in May 2010 while on honeymoon at Mkuze Falls Private Game Reserve in KwaZulu Natal.
