Ciconia abdimii
This relatively small, black stork is a common, non breeding visitor to southern Africa. It arrives at the beginning of the rainy season and moves nomadically in response to food availability.
We first recorded this species in April 2011 on the runway at the Maun Airport in Botswana. Kgomo Kgomo floodplain and fields in the vicinity of Rust de Winter are good spots to look for this species in summer.
